Reckless.

Fox knew Trump lost.
They lied about it anyway.

AND NOT EVEN A RECORD-BREAKING DEFAMATION SETTLEMENT CAN CHANGE THAT.

Dominion Voting Systems sued Fox News for defamation over false claims the network pushed after the 2020 election.

In pre-trial proceedings, a judge ruled that without a doubt Fox News knew Trump lost the election but helped him lie about it anyway -- almost 800 times according to our analysis.¹ And Fox hosted Trump campaign officials such as Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani dozens of times to advance lies and conspiracy theories.²

Just as the jury was selected and the trial was about to begin, Fox panicked and offered Dominion $787 million to avoid further exposure. Dominion may have agreed to settle, but the stain this leaves on Fox’s legacy can’t be wiped away.

“The stain this leaves on Fox can’t be wiped out with money. The network has been completely exposed as a partisan propaganda outlet that is willing to do anything for profit and power. Fox News lied about the 2020 election; they all knew it was a lie, right up to the Murdochs themselves. What the Dominion trial offered was a keyhole view into the day-to-day industrial-scale deceit that takes place at Fox. It helped illustrate why the company is such a uniquely destructive force.

Ultimately, though, the only way to hold Fox accountable is for the cable companies that force every cable customer to subsidize Fox by grossly overpaying for it, even if they never watch it, not to give in to Fox's bullying tactics.”

statement

Read the statement from Media Matters President Angelo Carusone here:

behind the scenes, hosts and executives knew their claims were absurd:

“Kooky”

- Anchor Maria Bartiromo [11/07/20]

“MIND BLOWINGLY NUTS”

- Fox Corp. Senior Vice President Raj Shah [11/21/20]

“F’ing lunatics”

- Prime-time host Sean Hannity [12/22/20]

“Totally off the rails.”

- Prime-time host Tucker Carlson [12/24/20]

Fox knew the truth would impact its bottom line:

After Fox called the election for Biden, Tucker Carlson said: “Do the executives understand how much credibility and trust we’ve lost with our audience?"

“We’re playing with fire, for real.”

Fox Knew.

Dominion uncovered explosive evidence of Fox’s malfeasance in advancing Trump’s Big Lie. Here are some of the key findings:

  • Fox knew that the 2020 election wasn’t stolen. The network promoted the lie anyway.

  • Fox lied for profit in a desperate bid to win back viewers.

  • Fox operates as a GOP propaganda outlet.

  • Rupert Murdoch provided Trump’s campaign with Fox’s confidential information about Biden ads and debate strategy, a potential violation of the law.

  • The evidence uncovered leaves Fox vulnerable to further liability.

TO THE

FOX NEWS FEE

You could be subsidizing Fox News’ lies and not even know it. A typical household pays Fox News almost $2 per month — about $20 per year — via their cable or satellite provider, regardless of whether they actually watch the channel. In the past 5 years alone, Fox has swindled consumers for over $9 billion in these fees.
